You all must have been aware of this nude protest by MPP volunteers.. So i wouldn't like to talk more about it, i rather focus on the reactions to this event...An interesting thought came up when i came across all the comments generated in facbook.. Most of these comments show the netizen's disapproval of the protest. They likened it to some senseless practice which harms the image of Manipuris.. which is fair enough but once more and more people joined in to comment (am not sure if they even bother to check the news report before passing their comments).. it started getting idiotic and takes away the focus from the core issue. As reported, the protest was against the govt. apathy and callous attitude towards handling the issues of Manipur.. citing examples like the recently suspended 3 months economic blockade, the SUPRA-State arrangement talks etc etc. Don't we all share the same opinion on these core issues.. that we want NO MORE economic blockade, no dis-integration of the state..etc etc? The form of protest did not click.. but the core issues remain the same. If it is really about the form of protest then HOW IS IT MORE HEINOUS THAN IROM SHARMILA FASTING FOR MORE THAN 11 YRS? At least, this nude protest was a one day event...and it is not inflicting any torture to anyone except for believing it will harm our image in the view of the outside world (which btw is true.. read my opinion on this). Does this mean we make assessment of a cause based on the benefits or harm it may bring to our individual self first rather than the society as a whole? Few questions i'd like to ask to all and specially MPP? I haven't seen any comment asking "Why did O Joy Singh, Dr Ng Bijoy, Dr I Ibohalbi and RK Anand , all senior MPP legislators, were present at the inauguration programme?" (as rightly pointed out by TSE) when these party workers made a huge issue on the PM's visit? Why can't MPP even get its internal act together right before they came out with such a strong public gesture? Does this show how inefficient/unorganized the MPP is? As a corollary: Does this prove the nexus between the high ranking officials of opposition party and the ruling government? And how some of them are trying to enter into the good books of congress party.. may be even beg for congress ticket in the upcoming election? Whatever may be my doubts one thing is certain that "a strong message" (through any medium) to invoke public response will never fetch us the intended response rather it will go down the drain as some humiliating joke. This also reinforces my belief on this . We can learn a lot from these events.. so that we can minimize our mistakes in the future. ---- Just my two cents
What is this MPP ? I'm really not interested in these kind of news, btw that must have been a horrible sight...
Lambida phanek phoubi, nupigi manungi furit yanbi, nude ta protest toubasi manipurgi custom oikhrabo? oirasanu keisu kaide.....Nude protestudi manipur yam nungsiramdo maliheeeeee! ..ARE THEY REALLY THINKING FOR BETTER MANIPUR? natraga makhoigidu MATHANG vote khomba hourijatla? vote khomasu nude ta khomnaramale..
Sad but true, however like our Gardener mentioned... what were and are - they doing with respect to Irom Sharmila? Nothing... so who cares about their motive now? All DRAMA... F$%^#!$#) DRAMA... that's it!
I just don't want my friends here to start pulling my legs asking if i am my going to take clothes off too when i get angry. I hope that does not happen even in jest.
I don't think you got my points.. i was asking all those who ar ridiculing these protestors in facbook in what sense this is more harmful than Irom Sharmila's fasting .. or how different it is when compared to the one done by our womenfolks in front of the Kangla Fort.. Or for that matter ...how different it is from those PETA folks going nude to bring attention towards their cause?
It is very different. When our womenfolk did it...it was a statement saying..."Come..we have already taken our clothes off. Now rape us if you are very much into sexually exploiting us. When Peta did it...it was a statement that they better not wear anything than wear fur or leather. Why did the men did it,i don't have any idea !!!
getting nude in public is awesome n it takes a lot of courage to actually do it. i am with these MPP youth workers. yes men, u guys did a very very good job....the italian job......the manniporese job. at least it sent a signal to them (sonia n mms) tht we want actual commitment from their side n not just once-in-a-blue-moon ceremonial visits to our soil.
The message is subjective to perspectives but the core issue that they are trying to highlight will remain the same..... like PETA wants the world to go veg.. and in all these.. there's one common thread i.e. "all of them are trying to seek attention which otherwise would not be able to achieve". ------ Let's not beat around the bush.. let me ask all of you directly aren't you a little biased towards this particular group?... i believe you are because, like i said earlier, this kind of event, especially if it gets out of Manipur, may supposedly harm our brand image. If PETA or Tibetan burning themselves up in protest against Chinese authority comes about as a sympathetic cause why are MPP youths going nude to protest against the callous attitude of Indian Govt. towards our issue be looked down upon as uncivilized?
There is nothing about being biased here. As mentioned before there is a reason why our Emas and Peta went nude. I am just asking for the reason why they did that. You just can't choose nudity as the form of protest without giving any reason. Organize it properly. Have a slogan. You just can't take off your clothes and say "I'm protesting". That makes us look primitive and that shedding clothes to us comes easy. Tibetan burning is a whole different issue.
Got the answer @Macken had made a very logical statement but i don't know why he deleted it.. let me replicate his words: He said "The PETA, or Manipuri womenfolks protesting nude infront of Kangla was different because those protestors are not a part of the system they are protesting against. MPP should protest in the right forums like assembly, or any public forum" (these are not the exact wordings though) This is a very valid argument.
Sorry, been out of touch lately. But I am back. I am hoping its not too late to continue with this discussion. As an established political outfit, what MMP did was quite mindless. I am sure there are better ways of protesting and to protest like that, for a State guest, it is just pointless. To me it look like a bunch of publicity hungry politicians who would do anything to get any amount of print space. If at all, they want to protest by undressing, they should be doing that for the blast that happened. That would have proved a point or two.
i feel nude protest shud not be taken up as the new form of protest. if they realy want then, throwing shoes, sniping the PM etc is better.
